Caption
African elephant (Loxodonta africana) tuskless adult female in woodland at sunset, Gorongosa National Park, Mozambique. The park experienced heavy poaching during the Mozambican Civil War, and elephants were targeted so their ivory could be traded for weapons. Consequently, the genes for large tusks were removed from the elephant population in the park. Many of the park's adult elephants, especially females like this one, have no tusks at all.
